Raekwons „Only Built For Cuban Linx„, auch unter dem Namen „The Purple Tape“ bekannt, gilt gemeinhin als eines der einflussreichsten Alben der 90er Jahre. Das „Purple Tape„, wie es auch genannt wird, hatte mit „OB4CL II“ 2009 einen würdigen Nachfolger bekommen und war mit Produktionen von J Dilla bis Dr. Dre sowie Features von u.a. Method Man, Busta Rhymes und Slick Rick hochkarätig besetzt.
Nun hat das Wu-Tang Clan Member in einem Interview mit MTV erklärt, dass er bereits am dritten Teil arbeite. Noch vor 2014 soll „Only Built For Cuban Linx III“ laut Raekwon erscheinen und der Trilogie einen respektabelen Abschluss geben. „I know that, at the end of the day, people are paying attention to the Three, and my thing is when I give them the Three, I wanna give you the Three and I’m gonna give it to you at the level you can respect it.“
Zum 17. Jahrestag seines Debütalbum schwelgt der Chef außerdem in Erinnerungen, beschreibt seine Vision für die Platte und betont, dass sie ihrer Zeit weit voraus gewesen sei. „When I made that album I had so many visions for it; I was a super-visionary, (…) I would try to create everything to prove to the world, to prove to my company that this album is classic; it’s ahead of its time.“ so Raekwon anlässlich des Jahrestags seines Albums.
